Stunning antique granary door from the region of Tata in Southern Morocco.
This beautifully decorated 18th century door would have been used to secure all manner of items in a communal granary, a type of early bank, called an Agadir.
In local Berber dialect the term agadir (pl. igoudar) is the name given to the storage place where villagers kept their valuable possessions - such as nuts, cereals, documents, jewellery or other important items - securely under lock and key from marauders. These centuries-old ‘Berber banks’ are littered all over the Anti-Atlas region of Morocco, often situated on tops of hills away from peering eyes. Some are still in use today.
This stunning antique door is still in very good condition for its age. This is a rare opportunity to buy an amazing historic piece of Morocco.
